Scott “Scotty” Landis, 34, of Hanson, Massachusetts, was killed in a plane crash on August 24, 2018. Scotty took off that afternoon to spread the ashes of his father Richard, who passed away earlier in the month, when his plane experienced mechanical failure.

Scotty was a Blackhawk (UH-60) pilot and instructor assigned to A-Company of the 3rd Battalion, 126th Aviation Regiment at Joint Base Cape Cod. He had been awarded with medals for his service in Iraq and Afghanistan, had received the Air Medal twice, and had earned several other commendations. He was deployed to Kosovo in January and had returned home to Hanson on leave to be with his father in his final days.

Scotty is survived by his wife, Staci; and son, Jack
