We naturally seek sweet salty or fatty foods. In nature these things are nutritionally beneficial and can provide satisfaction physically and emotionally. Our brains reward centers have a response that is healthy and reasonable.
Manufactured foods have an unnatural amount of sugar, salt and fat-often in combination, something not seen in nature. (Can you name a food that contains a lot of sweetness and fat?)
Our brains reward center is hyper stimulated when we eat these man made foods and craving for these foods is sent into overload.
The anticipation of eating, and the immediate pleasure from eating these foods is a potent drug and can lead to a diet that consists of mostly “comfort foods.”
This leads to a legion of emotional and physical health issues and 99% of the time leads to being overweight or obese.
Unlike drugs that work the same way, (hyper stimulate our brains reward center but leave our health in shambles) the worse the food is, the cheaper and more super-abundantly it is available. You don’t need to meet a dealer, show an ID or steal it. Unhealthy, arguably addictive unnatural manufactured foods are everywhere. (Heck, you don’t even have to leave your car if you don’t want to!)
